Most people are terrified to go to the dentist. But to some, it's much of a relief to just go to the dentist instead of going to the gym.

You can come up with an endless list of excuses to avoid working out. From not having the time to feeling like you don't know what to do, no one is short on reasons not to go to the gym. While it's easy to persuade yourself with all these excuses, it's not doing you any good.

Working out shouldn't be something everyone dreads. The key to changing is understanding why you feel this way in the first place.

Change Your Way of Thinking

The most common reason people dread working out is because they view it as an obligation. They tell themselves in order to drop weight, they have to log this time at the gym. The problem is, no one likes to be dictated on what to do, even when they are telling themselves. Viewing work out this way makes it such a drag and burden instead of an opportunity to improve yourself.

Enjoying working out begins by changing the way you think about exercise. One way to do this is by applying the competitive side of you. Find challenges in working out that motivate you.

Another way to get over your hatred towards exercise is to realize that there are many options available to do rather than just being on the treadmill all day. Making your work out fun and enjoyable to make it a whole better experience. Exercise doesn't need to be confined to a narrow scope. Try different activities that get your heartbeat up and see what you like.

You can also change your feelings towards exercise by making it a social experience. Exercise with a friend or family member. Try out a fitness class. Join an exercise boot camp. All of these given option will break the ice with what people assume working out is about. Not only can this make exercise more enjoyable, but studies have shown people who don't exercise alone are more successful at losing weight.

Be Present

The most effective way to change your feelings towards exercise is to actually focus on what you're doing. Too many people's mind think about their hectic schedules before they even step inside the gym. Set aside the time you spend exercising as time where you're focused on yourself and your body.

Thinking about your breathing and individual movements during exercise can really change your perception of it. Some experts who advocate this approach to fitness recommend working out without music. While it's worth trying, you can put on your favorite music and still be present during your exercise routine. The main key is choosing the perfect music that will keep your head focuses instead of a music that just keeps your thoughts wandering off.
